A HOUSE FULL OF MEMORIES

A house has foundations, a roof, and walls. And it becomes a home when it captures moments within those walls that create warm memories for all who share its spaces.

Mimika’s house was a home to many…

At the end of the 19th century, around 1890, it became the home of Marija and Matija Zupančič, Mimika’s grandmother and grandfather. It was built by Marija’s brother, but life took him across the ocean to the Promised Land of America.

And so the house became a place where a new story began to unfold. Marija and Matija had four children, but only Franc survived childhood; he married Marjeta. A year after the birth of their son Herman, a girl named Marija was born, whom they called Mimika. A few years later, their younger brother Hinko joined them.

Mimika remained in her childhood home. The house became a home for the family she built with Jožef Karner. They had a son, Jože, and seven years later, a daughter, Marjetka. Marjetka spent the early years of her family life in the house with her husband Darko and their daughters Tjaša and Maša.

Many neighbors spent their free time at Mimika’s. They enjoyed visiting her, chatting with one another, and helping her with various farm chores.

After her husband’s death, Mimika was left alone in the house. After Mimika left, the house was left empty as well. But over the years, she created many fond memories for all those to whom she offered shelter and warmly opened her doors.

Mimika’s house had Mimika, who, with her broad smile and kindness, knew how to draw in all those seeking warmth and kindness. Thanks to Mimika, the house was never lonely, and it never will be. It still opens its doors to all who wish to experience the homey atmosphere of the house and the beauty of the place where it stands. The house, full of memories, is once again a place where new stories are being created, stories that will continue to be captured within its walls.
